Out of the Ashes–A Phoenix has Risen

 

At the start of the 2012 academic year, the decision was made to reorganize services traditionally provided by the Media Services Department in an effort to establish a centralized event support model on campus.  We’ve had our ‘nose to the grindstone’ analyzing needs and adapting systems and procedures for our new role while providing support for several thousand events simultaneously (think of it as trying to assemble that new bicycle you just bought while simultaneously riding it in the Tour de France).  Great progress has been made, and Summer of 2014 represents our first chance to update our online systems to represent then many changes that have occurred over the last two academic years (last summer was all about relocating and establishing our new office space in the Gustie Den- JCC 104h, a location more conducive to those that we serve regularly).

We look forward to pulling back the curtain in an effort to step out of our typically anonymous support role on campus and share with others how we can help may your event a success (after all, we pride ourselves in knowing that if our efforts go unnoticed, it means that we are doing our job exceptionally well so that the public’s focus is on the events we serve and not us).

 

In case you’ve been ‘Studying Abroad, or on Sabbatical’  for the last two years:

 

The ‘newly’ formed “Event Services” and “Event Technical Services” are sub-units of the Campus Activities Office and represents the expansion of scope beyond the former student centered focus of the ‘Student Activities Office’ to include support for all events that are being held at Gustavus.  This includes College Events that directly support the mission of the college (Signature Events, Departmental/ Programatic Events and Student Organization Events) as well as the wide range of events hosted annually by Alumni, Community Members/Organizations and Area Businesses at Gustavus.
In order to facilitate this new vision of support, services traditionally supported by Media Services were shifted in order to allow for a focus on event production support by Event Services.  Please refer to this reorganization overview  found in the ‘Event Services Support Center – Knowledgebase‘ for more details.
This blog/news feed will be used primarily as a method of updating the Campus Community and interested parties about our ongoing effort to address the multi-faceted charge of providing top notch support for all events hosted on the Gustavus Campus as we continue to improve exactly how that is carried out day to day.
